Why Eye Candy? Because it’s fun, slightly irreverent and more interesting than “Braddon Optical“.
Our ethos has and always will be different to the chain or corporate stores. We can be ourselves and provide you with the service and understanding that we expect.
Your eye exam will be thorough and you’ll get to see amazing images of the inside of your eye (unless you’re squeamish!). We’ll explain things simply and if you don’t need glasses, we’ll tell you. (You could still pick some cool frames and have clear lenses!) This is why we offer more than just the basics. We allow 40 minutes for our appointments. This gives us the time to perfect your prescription, thoroughly examine the health of your eyes and talk through any issues or concerns you may have.
We’re experienced, qualified, and generally know what we’re doing. In fact we are really good at we we do, which doesn’t mean we don’t occasionally make the odd mistake, or forget to order something. But when we do, we fix it so that you are happy, and hopefully then you’ll say nice things about us.
Eye Candy was formerly known as “Langley Pino Eyecare” at our City Walk store which has always been family owned and operated since it was established in 1986. You’ll see familiar faces, have time for an espresso (or something stronger) and get to know us on a more personal level.
We are one of the few Independents bringing new eyewear to Canberra and challenging the boring conformity of the established chains.
We are an ethical, local business that spends money in the community and supports local causes.
In February 2020 it will be 35 years since we started our business and even though it has been a long time we have enjoyed pretty well every minute.
To keep enjoying pretty well every minute we have decided that we will be closing each July starting July 2020.
We hope you understand that because we are and wish to remain an independent family owned business we struggle to have time off and again because we really enjoy what we do and we are getting a little older this will enable us to continue for another 35 years.
We will all be close to 100 by then but fingers crossed.
Our sister store “Pino and Sun Eyecare” in Belconnen will be open for any emergencies, collections or enquiries, and can be contacted on 62514441.
Thank you for understanding but most of all, for the friendships made, discussions in helping to solve the worlds problems and patronage over the last 35 years.
David Tredinnick, where to begin. David is not only a great Optometrist, he is a truly lovely human. He is a Behavioural Optometrist. That means he is great with all aspects of children’s vision and vision related learning difficulties. He is highly skilled in coloured lens assessment, beneficial in many conditions including Dyslexia. He is passionate about, and experienced with, contact lenses, preventative eyecare and vision wellness. He has a good relationship with the local ophthalmologists if referrals are required.
David began working with Anthony and Lily in the city walk practice in 1996, then ran the ANU Eyecare practice before moving to the Braddon practice due to the ANU redevelopment.
He is a devoted husband, and father of two great people, a car nut and according to himself an average golfer. He really does look like Brad Pitt, when you squint.
Prior to Eyecandy Optical, Lily worked with Joe and Anthony Pino in their city walk practice for over twenty years. Lily will always do her utmost to assist. Nothing is too hard. You won’t find a person more dedicated and trustworthy to make sure you walk out looking a million bucks. She has developed a rapport with her clients that keeps them coming back. This is why Lily is the guru of optics in Canberra.
In that time she has not only become an integral part of the business, she is family.
Lily treats her clients like family. You can judge the kind of person Lily is by the number of hugs and kisses received and given each day.
Have to be careful here’s she is Anthony’s wife. Bella started off doing the admin stuff but her love of fashion and telling it as it is, has made her great at choosing spectacles for clients.
Now that her boys have finished school, Bella spends more time in Eyecandy which is a bonus for everyone that comes in, except Anthony.
She is super organised and having been in the industry for over 25 years has great contacts with all of the brands we carry and can access frames where others can’t.
Before joining the “Langley Pino” group in 1990, Anthony worked in the UK and Italy in the late 80’s. There he generally had a great time, avoided catching Mad Cow disease, put on about a thousand kilos, watched some great bands and gained some invaluable optical experience. He soon learnt some valuable lessons about how optical retailing should really be done. Most importantly, he knew he needed to be excited about the product for you to be.
Despite working extremely hard, Anthony and his lovely wife Bella still found time to bring up two great boys (when asleep). He can often be seen on the sidelines of his boys’ football matches offering constructive tips to the referee, or hurtling down Mount Stromlo on his mountain bike. He is quite possibly the nicest person you will ever meet, and makes a mean macchiato.
Just don’t call him Tony!
A style guru and artistic genius! Alex has been working with Anthony for 19 years (even though she still looks 25), being the mainstay at the ANU practice as well as City Walk practice.
Now at Eyecandy Optical, Alex has a loyal fan club who appreciate Alex’s fashion flair with frames, and her comprehensive knowledge of lens designs and options. Her fans know they will be wearing individual, stylish spectacles with the most appropriate lens for the demands of their lifestyle.
A common theme with the team here, you’ll find it hard to meet a nicer more honest person than Alex.
If you would like to book an appointment or just ask a question, then why not get in touch. If you want more, then popping in and seeing us is a must.
